A Little Bit About Courtney and She Can and She Will…
I am a 24 year old currently working at Wilfred Laurier University with the Athletics and Recreation Department which I am extremely passionate about. I attended Laurier and played on the Varsity Women’s Basketball team for five years, which were such incredible years, and I am beyond grateful for that experience and opportunity. At the end of my undergrad I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life – which is a very scary time when you have to look at the big picture and try and figure out what is next. I knew my interests and I knew I wanted to make a difference. Like everyone, I have faced adversity that I have gone through. Each challenge taught me something different and I can say for a fact that I would not have been able to get through them without my support team. So, I wanted to be that support team and empower females. I realized very quickly that there was not necessarily a job out there that lined up with what I wanted to do. So, I decided to create it, which was definitely influenced by my support team. I am no expert by any means but I have learned so much through the obstacles I have had to overcome and realized when you have a voice you have the power.
She Can & She Will was created to inspire and motivate females to crash through the class ceiling by helping build the confidence, courage and commitment to be invincible. It is a movement that is a support team for females to be themselves fearlessly.
Everyone has a story that is worth sharing that could have an impact on someone else. I want She Can and She Will to be that support team for all females everywhere!
Favourite Thing About Being an Entrepreneur…
I do not necessarily identify myself as an entrepreneur, but I guess I am. I love being able to fuel my passion fire my way. I love that if I have an idea I can run with it however I want and make my vision a reality. With that comes the support team needed to make it a success. I believe behind everyone there is a team that lifts you up through the ups and downs. I am grateful to have such a strong support team and I would not be where I am or have this idea without them. By having such a strong team it motivated me to be that for people who do not necessarily have that.
Challenges of Being a Millennial Entrepreneur…
Life, eh? Always full of challenges. Well for me, my biggest challenge at this point is all the hamsters in my mind that are constantly running on their wheels (not actual hamsters – don’t worry but you know what I’m talking about the ‘idea machine’ in your brain). It is extremely hard to focus on one thing or one idea because my mind is all over the place thinking about eight steps ahead of where I am. I am currently working on this and trying to take baby steps but it is hard when I am so excited about future ideas or plans.
Advice to Other Millennials Looking to Attain Greatness in Business…
If it fuels your passion fire – do it! Surround yourself with a team. These are the people who will support you and build you up through the ups and downs. There is no rule book on what is the right or wrong way to do things I am still learning and I don’t think I will ever stop learning. That’s the amazing thing about it. Capitalize on opportunities and create opportunities for yourself! Don’t sit back and wait for something to happen – create it and enjoy the process. When you don’t succeed take that as a lesson learned and try something else. Don’t give up.
Cool Things Coming Up for She Can and She Will…
I am beyond excited for what is to come! I am currently partnering with different organizations to collaborate for events in the near future so stay tuned. I am also in the process of starting a podcast that will be a platform for females to share their stories so if you want to be featured feel free to reach out!
