A Little Bit About Aina, Dede, Ruby and The Cupcake Boutique…

The Cupcake Boutique was founded in 2013 when three friends, Aina Aidoo, Dede Gyamera and Ruby Aidoo decided to merge their love of desserts and passion for marketing and customer service together! Aina had started taking custom cake orders from her home in Ghana when she came up with the idea to open up a fulltime cake business. Ruby and Dede, who had been living and working in marketing and branding in Canada at the time, took her up on her offer and the ladies opened up one of Ghana’s sweetest spots.

The Cupcake Boutique, affectionately known as TCB, is your one stop shop for all things sweet. The co-founders describe themselves as the perfect blend between DC Cupcakes, Starbucks and Tim Hortons, offering a wide array of products such as cupcakes, milkshakes, sandwiches and much more. Their slogan is “You Deserve It” because they believe people should celebrate small victories and indulge in small ways.

Favorite Thing About Being an Entrepreneur…

Dede: Giving an opportunity for other people to envision their lives a certain way, especially in this part of the world. By being my own boss, I create opportunities for people to get jobs, get better and to be inspired. My life is an example of that because I am a young CEO. I get to meet people who are my age or older and I get share the knowledge that I have with them.

Challenges of Being a Millennial Entrepreneur…

Aina: Definitely getting funding and support. Getting funding for a new business venture is extremely difficult. The initial idea or dream is something you devised. The people you are looking to invest in your business such as your parents, friends and investors find it hard to sometimes believe in your vision or dream. Additionally, having emotional support is just as important and you don’t always get that.

Advice to Other Millennials Looking to Attain Greatness in Business…

Ruby: Always think of the why. This is all about purpose. If God has placed that vision or dream on your heart, He’s going to give you the tools and the necessities to carry things through but you need to sit down and think about why. Everything that I did between finishing university and co-founding TCB was in line with the skills I needed to run the company. It’s important to sit down and reflect. Think about why you want to do the things that you do and if God has placed those things on your heart, He’ll make a way for them to come to fruition.

Cool Things Coming Up for The Cupcake Boutique…

Aina, Dede and Ruby: TCB is looking to provide the sweet experience to different communities in Accra so stay tuned! We are always planning ways to come up with new and innovative ways to constantly keep TCB ahead of the game.
